Inquire about negotiating a "self pay fee", your therapist will work for you, not your insurance company. Look for someone with more life experience than you. Look for someone who is a parent, is married or has experienced divorce, has lived with grief or watched their own parents age. Request an initial consultation session and ask about professional experience and certifications.
